10-yr-old Boy Caught in The Act Stealing A Car

THE Ebonyi State Police Command at the weekend, arrested a 10-year-old boy for allegedly trying to force open the door of a Mercedes Benz car, parked along Awka street in Abakaliki, the state capital. Parading the suspect before newsmen at the command headquarters, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Sylvester Igbo, said that luck ran out of the suspect, when the owner of the car, on sighting the boy trying to open the vehicle door, raised an alarm resulting in the intervention of passersby and the subsequent arrest of the suspect. According to the PPRO, the suspect, whose name was given as Toochukwu Otuu, admitted committing the crime when interrogated by investigating police officers. ASP Igbo said: “It was when the suspect was caught in the act that he confessed that he was sent by one Mr Oluchukwu who was based in Enugu, the capital of Enugu State. The police image maker said that the guardian of the boy disclosed that the suspect had been involved in stealing people’s property and had earlier been taken to a spiritual healing home for cleansing. Igbo said that the command was on the trail of the suspected two-man gang, who allegedly introduced the suspect to car theft, saying that the suspect was now in police custody, and will be charged to court at the end of investigation.

Mixed reactions are still trailing the recent demolitions of structures along Badagry road to pave way for the ongoing World Bank assisted road construction. Aside traders and tenants who have expressed disappointment over the demolition of their shops and residential buildings, without provisions for alternatives, commercial sex workers operating at Agboju appear most embittered by the development. One of the sex workers who simply identified herself as Chinasa could not hide her anger against the governor Fashola led administration in Lagos state whom she said was supposed to have arranged an alternative settlement long before the structures were brought down. According to Chinasa, who spoke English fluently, “the demolition of structures which includes our own building which according to authorities was situated along the areas mapped out for the road construction have also demolished our business. Since that event, we do not have anywhere to host our clients. In fact, they do not even know how to locate us any longer”. Another colleague of Chinasa who gave her name as Sandra also lamented over the incidence. She threw curses at the government who could not provide jobs or empower the youths yet keeps frustrating every effort they make to survive. Sandra disclosed that trading sex was the only means of survival for her after searching for jobs for years. Asked how business is faring as they are seen hanging around what remains of the once bubbling Agboju market, she revealed that prior to the destruction of their brothel which they paid N1,000 per day as rent, she made over N10,000 in a day depending on the number of customers she had. Each client who made use of condom paid about #1,500 or more while those who refused to use condom paid more depending on her power of bargain. Since the demolitions she explained, “We only manage to have two customers and that is only at night as most of us who are desperate now make use of market people’s tables”. As it is she continued, “We are hoping that our land lady would do something quickly to relocate us so that we can commence our job” Meanwhile, some women who were also victims of the demolition who now display their wares along the road at Agboju bus stop see the demolition of the brothel as the hand of God and in fact, as prayer answered.

A 17-years-old girl, Titilayo Ojo of Kado village of the FCT was on Thursday arraigned at an Abuja Senior Magistrates’ Court for committing adultery with her neighbour’s husband. The prosecutor, Sgt. Sim Emmanuel, said Mrs. Sunday reported that she caught the accused having sexual intercourse with her husband on her matrimonial bed on Aug.29.


He added that when Mrs Sunday picked up a quarrel with her husband over the incident, he poured a pot of boiling water, which contained pepper, on her.

Emmanuel told the court that she had since been admitted at the Asokoro General hospital following injuries she sustained in the attack. He said that the accused was charged with adultery, adding that the offence was punishable under Section 388 of the Penal Code.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Senior Magistrate Abdullahi Illelah, therefore, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with a surety in like sum.
Illelah ordered that the surety must be a reasonable and reliable Nigerian who must a known and of definite address within the jurisdiction of the court.
The case was adjourned to Sept. 12, 2012 for further hearing. (NAN)

Quadruplets So Identical That They have Numbers Shaved Onto Heads For Identification

As if the first day of school isn't already a nerve-wracking experience for kids, try doing it with one of these hairdos. Tan Chaoyun from Shenzhen, China, realized she had a problem when her 6-year-old quadruplet sons were about to start school and are so identical that neither she nor her husband can tell them apart.
Chaoyun was worried the boys' similar identities could cause problems for their elementary school teachers, so she came up with a quick-fix solution as simple as 1, 2, 3 and 4.
She had a barber shave the numbers onto her son's heads.
"My sons are identical, even to me," Tan told local reporters. "I could only tell the difference between them by having different ankle tags on them before they turned 18 months old."
"Even now, their father can't tell which one is which. Sometimes, he punishes the second one for something the third one has done."

A Chinese River Mysteriously Turns Red.

Yet that's the shade turning up in the Yangtze River and officials have no idea why.

The red began appearing in the Yangtze, the longest and largest river in China and the third longest river in the world, yesterday near the city of Chongquing, where the Yangtze connects to the Jialin River.

The Yangtze, called "golden" because of the heavy rainfall it receives year-round, runs through Chongqing, Southwest China's largest industrial and commercial center, also known as the "mountain city" because of the hills and peaks upon which its many buildings and factories stand.

The red color stopped some residents in their tracks. They put water from the river in bottles to save it. Fishermen and other workers who rely on the river for income kept going about their business, according to the UK's Daily Mail.

While the river's red coloring was most pronounced near Chongqing it was also reported at several other points.

Officials are reportedly investigating the cause.

14 Year Old Girl Accused of Blasphemy in Pakistan Granted Bail

A Christian girl who has been detained on blasphemy charges for three weeks in Pakistan has been granted bail.

The girl, named as Rimsha, is thought to be about 14 years old. She was arrested in Islamabad after a mob accused her of burning pages of the Koran and demanded her punishment, reports the BBC.

Last week a Pakistani imam was remanded in custody, accused of planting burned pages of the Koran in her bag.

The case has sparked international condemnation.

Judge Muhammad Azam Khan ordered her release and set bail at about $10,500 (£6,200).

The BBC's M Ilyas Khan in Islamabad says Rimsha is the first person accused of blasphemy to have been granted bail by a trial court.

Blasphemy is not a bailable offence but her lawyers pleaded that she was a juvenile.

Rimsha has been held at a high-security prison since August 16. Since her arrest there have been conflicting reports about her age and mental capacity.

Doctors who examined her last month said she appeared to be about 14 and that her "mental age appears below her chronological age".

Rimsha's safety upon her release is likely to be a key concern for campaigners. Her father has previously said that he fears for his daughter's life and for the safety of his family.

Her parents were taken into protective custody at an undisclosed location following threats, and many other Christian families fled the neighbourhood after her arrest.

If her bail payment is met, Rimsha is likely to be reunited with her parents, correspondents say.

There have been cases in Pakistan where people accused of blasphemy have been killed by vigilante mobs.

Indeed Rimsha was arrested by police on August 16 in a poor neighbourhood of Islamabad only after a crowd demanded her punishment, enraged by accusations that she had burned pages of the Koran.

But in an unusual development just weeks later on September 2, police arrested a Muslim cleric from her neighbourhood after his own deputy accused him of planting pages of the Koran in a bag belonging to Rimsha.

Imam Khalid Chishti denies the allegation but prosecutors say he will be charged with tampering with evidence as well as blasphemy.

IBB, Abdulsalami, Tinubu Lead Battle for PHCN Assets

Two former heads of state, retired Generals Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar, as well as former Governor of Lagos State and leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu, are the promoters of some of the bidding consortiums contesting for the 18 companies unbundled from the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), THISDAY investigations have revealed.

This is coming as the workers of the ailing power utility giant have called for the re-evaluation of bids for companies slated for privatisation.

Also topping the list of promoters is an oil magnate, Sir Emeka Offor; business mogul, retired Colonel Sani Bello; as well as allies of Vice-President Namadi Sambo.

North South Power Company Limited, which is believed to be promoted by Babangida, passed the technical evaluation for the Shiroro Power Station and would participate in the financial bid stage.

North South Power Company was the only consortium that submitted bids for Shiroro, while Dangote Power and Super Tech belonging to business mogul, Aliko Dangote and Professor Jerry Gana, respectively, submitted late bids and were automatically disqualified.

Integrated Electric Nigeria Limited, promoted by retired General Abubakar as chairman, Mr. Tunde Ayeni and Dr. Shola Ayandele, is contesting with other bidders for Eko, Ibadan and Yola Distribution Companies.

However, the chances of the company’s bids for Eko and Ibadan Discos are slim due to the presence of Oando Gas and Power, Lagos State Government, Tinubu and Honeywell in the contest.

THISDAY learnt that Integrated Electric has however passed the technical evaluation for Yola Disco, which is awaiting the approval of the National Council on Privatisation (NCP).

For Ibadan Disco, Integrated Electric will compete against Western Consortium, promoted by Oando Power and Tinubu. Integrated Electric and Western Consortium are believed to have passed the technical bid stage for Ibadan Distribution Company, which is awaiting NCP’s approval.

Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited, supported by Bello, passed the technical evaluation for Kainji Power Station and is set to participate in the financial bid.

It also submitted a bid for Jebba Power Station but it is not yet clear if any of the bidders for Jebba was successful, as there was no announcement made by the NCP on the status of the technical bids submitted for the hydro power station.

The Oando Consortium, believed to be promoted by Oando Gas and Power, Lagos State Government and Tinubu, is battling with other bidders for Eko and Ikeja Distribution Companies.

Also in the race for Eko and Ikeja Discos are: Ampiron Power Distribution Limitedand Honeywell Consortium, promoted by Mr. Oba Otudeko.

The Lagos State Government, it was gathered, decided to hedge its bets by also submitting a bid alongside the Honeywell Consortium, as it is bent on acquiring a stake in the two Lagos-based distribution assets.

The state government has made it abundantly clear that whoever wins Eko and Ikeja Discos would have to deal with it owing to its massive investment in distribution infrastructure and rural electrification projects over the years.

Meanwhile, Offor’s Interstate Electric Nigeria Limited is slugging it out with several other bidders, which include Eastern Electric Nigeria Limited for Enugu Distribution Company.

THISDAY gathered that there are 30 per cent unalloted shares in the Interstate Electric bid which was submitted to the Bureau of Public Enterprises, fuelling speculation that the shares may have been reserved for investors with the financial muscle to enhance Interstate’s bid for Enugu Disco.

Eastern Electric, on the other hand, is backed by Time Power Global Dynamics, believed to be sponsored by Ernest Azudialu’s Nestoil; Nifex Limited; Aba Power and Geometric Power Limited, which belongs to the former Minister of Power, Prof. Bart Nnaji; and the governments of Abia, Anambra, Enugu and Ebonyi States.

It is believed that the refusal by the Imo State Government to bid under any consortium stemmed from Governor Rochas Okorocha’s close relationship with Offor.

In the case of Port Harcourt Distribution Company, Four Power Consortium, promoted by the governments of Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa States and other private sector bidders, is contesting against Rockson Engineering, promoted by the owner of Arik Air, Sir Joseph Arumemi-Johnson.

Southern Electric Distribution Company, which submitted bids for Benin Distribution Company, indicated that it has the commitment of the government of Delta State, while Rockson Engineering indicated that it has a similar commitment from the Edo State Government.

A top member of the NCP is believed to be behind Skipper Nigeria Limited, which is bidding for Kaduna Distribution Company against NAHCO Energy and Power Limited.

However, none of these bidders was successful, compelling the BPE to come up with three fresh options, which it intends to submit to NCP, on how to handle the failed bids for Kaduna Disco.

The first option is to re-advertise the company to harvest a new batch of expressions of interest from prospective investors; the second option is to allow those that submitted late technical and financial bids and were rejected by the BPE to submit their bids; while the third is to invite other bidders that lost out at the financial bid stage to submit fresh bids for Kaduna Disco.

Skipper Nigeria Limited is however believed to have passed the technical re-evaluation conducted by a new committee set up by the NCP for Afam Power Station, but is subject to NCP's approval. Skipper had slugged it out with NPG Consortium and Primeniza Energy Limited.

The reconstituted evaluation team comprised officials from the Ministries of Works and Power, Infrastructure Regulatory Concession Commission and Bureau of Public Procurement.

Sahelian Energy, which was pre-qualified for Kano Distribution Company, is promoted by Alhaji Yusuf, a ministerial nominee of Vice-President Sambo, who did not pass the security screening.

However, Kepco Consortium, promoted by Sahara Energy, is still in negotiations with the BPE for the takeover of Egbin Power Station, subject to NCP and the Federal Government's approval.

State governments such as Lagos, the four South-east and four South-south states are believed to have joined various consortiums after they were encouraged by the BPE to submit bids for the distribution assets.

Under the privatisation programme, the state governments are automatically entitled to two per cent but can get a maximum of eight per cent through the bidding consortiums due to their ownership of the right of way in their states and their massive investment in the distribution and rural electrification network.

THISDAY gathered that another reason the states were encouraged to participate in the process stemmed from the difficulty in carving out the distribution network and delineating boundaries in the immediate term, but this could happen in the future as the market structure evolves.

Also, there were concerns that it will be difficult to place a value on the investment by the states in distribution and rural electrification infrastructure, thus necessitating that they bid for the distribution assets through the privatisation process.

Meanwhile, electricity workers under the aegis of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) have called for the re-evaluation on the grounds that Nnaji’s resignation implied that there might have been some undue influence in the overall management of the privatisation process.

In a letter to Sambo who doubles as the Chairman of NCP, the union also requested the report of the valuation of PHCN which puts the assets and liabilities of the corporation at N200 billion.

It stated that the valuation of a company like PHCN should be transparently done with active participation of all stakeholders.

The letter signed by the General Secretary of the union, Comrade Joe Ajaero, advised that persons who are politically vulnerable should not be allowed to participate in the privatisation exercise.

“To us it is altruism that the undue influence issue might not have been restricted to Afam Power Plant and Enugu Electricity Distribution Zone of PHCN alone, we believe the whole process has been grossly infested by the menace.

“With all sense of patriotism, we demand also for the report of the valuation of PHCN assets and liabilities that actually came up with the current value of PHCN put at N200 billion only.

“The valuation of a company like PHCN should be transparently done with active participation of all stakeholders.

“We believe that this is the only way credibility and transparency would be seen to have returned to the whole privatisation process. This will enhance investors’ confidence and those of the international community,” the union stated.

Blatter Describes Nigeria Powerful In Women Football

 

FIFA President Sepp Blatter yesterday paid glowing tributes to Nigeria’s women football. He said the world’s most populous black nation has continued to play a leading role in the promotion of the game in the universe.

“Nigeria has not only shown great potential and ability in the men’s game; she has continued to exert strength and direction in the women’s game. Thanks to Nigeria, women football in Africa is becoming stronger in strength and enterprise, and we are happier for it as a world body.
“The Falconets finished second at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Germany, and now have opportunity to take the bronze after losing in the semi final against the USA. They will be very strong against the host nation (Japanese) for the bronze medal match and anything can happen,” said Blatter.
The world football supremo was speaking at a FIFA banquet for the teams remaining in the tournament, which took place at the magnificent Conrad Tokyo last night.
Blatter reinforced his conviction that the future of football is feminine, saying that some of the things that happen in women’s football would never find place in the men’s game. “I remember very well that when at the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in Germany, the final was between USA and Japan and Japan was triumphant.
At the 2012 Olympic Games Women’s Football Tournament in London few weeks ago, the final was also between USA and Japan, but this time, USA was triumphant. Yet, in all my years in football, I have never seen a losing team in the final so happy. They lost but they were happy, because they knew they already put their best efforts and these were not enough. I wish this can also happen in the women’s game.

Terrorism: Telecoms firms threaten to cut off North

Major providers of mobile telephony  in the country  have threatened to withdraw  their services from the  North.

They hinged their threat on the spate of attacks on  base stations which has made them to lose a whopping N1.03bn.

The umbrella body of the telecoms operators, the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria, on Thursday said its members were losing too much to the development and may close shop if it became too dangerous to operate in the region.

 The major GSM providers – MTN, Glo, Airtel and Etisalat – are all members of ALTON.

Gunmen, also on Thursday reportedly bombed a base station belonging to an indigenous telecoms infrastructure company, IHS Nigeria, in Kano, barely 24 hours after the attack on several base stations in Borno, Yobe, Bauchi and Gombe states.

 The Executive Director, Commercial and Business Development, IHS, Mr. Gbenga Onakomaiya, who confirmed the development to our correspondent on Thursday, said one of the company’s base stations was bombed in Borno on Wednesday while another one was bombed in Kano on Thursday morning.

 Officials of ALTON put the number of base stations that had been attacked in the north at 26.

 President of ALTON, Mr. Gbenga Adebayo, who decried the situation, said  “If it becomes impossible to continue to do business in the face of rising attacks on telecoms sites, operators will naturally suspend operations in the area.

“This is because beyond base stations, these elements may begin to target telecoms operators‘ offices and data centres among other key infrastructure. That is why it is important that the situation is curtailed before it gets to that point.

“During military coups, dissidents attack newspaper and television houses as well as telecommunications centres and infrastructure to destabilise the government. This is not different from what we are experiencing now as people’s phones can’t be reached in the affected areas.”

 The ALTON president said an emergency meeting of the association’s executives had been called for today (Friday) to decide on what next to do.

 A Chief Executive Officer of one of the GSM companies, who asked not to be named, said though the company was not contemplating suspending its operations as of now,  it could be forced to do so if the situation persisted.

“We are not contemplating the withdrawal of services as of today but if the situation continues like this in the next four to five days, we may have to withdraw service. But we are not contemplating that now,” he said.

Telecoms infrastructure analysts in the country have put the average cost of a base station at $250,000, which amounts to N39.47m at an exchange rate of N157.91 to a dollar as at Thursday.

 With 26 base stations already destroyed, an investment of N1.03bn might have gone down the drain.

 Contrary to the belief that only MTN, Airtel and Glo were affected, the Executive Secretary, ALTON, Mr. Gbolahan Awonuga, said the attack affected all telecoms operators, including  Multilinks and Helios Tower.

When contacted, an official of Helios Tower, said that about three of the company’s  base stations were also affected.

He confirmed the report that services had been disrupted in the affected areas as  engineers had been finding it difficult to give adequate reports of the situation because they couldn’t be reached.

Onokomaiya, who attested to the seriousness  of the situation, said, “One of our base stations was bombed in Borno on Wednesday and another was bombed in Kano this morning (Thursday). The base station was completely burnt out. The generators, shelter and equipment are gone. The only things remaining now are the towers and we have to assess them to ascertain their integrity.”

A formal report sent by Multilinks to ALTON, which was made available to our correspondent, confimed that Multilinks base stations located at Mainok Village, Borno and another one at Abari Village in Damaturu, were damaged.

The report said, “Reports obtained from our personnel indicate that extremists numbering about 40 stormed the area at about 22:20 Hrs on 05/09/2012 and immediately launched an attack on the MTN cell site. After the attack on MTN cell site, the extremists proceeded to our site which is close to the MTN site to launch a similar attack.

“As at this (Thursday) morning,  the extent of damage done to  the site is yet to be ascertained as contact with the security men is yet to be established after the attack.

“ Also our Abari site in Damaturu which is not on air was reportedly attacked also. Details remain sketchy as those resident in the area were  all indoors.”

Stakeholders urged the Federal Government to wade into the issue to ensure that the safety of lives of operators’ personnel and agents was assured.

Key stakeholders had called on the Federal Government to bestow on ICT infrastructure a Critical National Security Infrastructure pending the time appropriate laws would be enacted to strengthen it.

 “The time has come for the passing into law of the National Security Bill pending in the National Assembly which must be made all-embracing by giving telecoms industry a critical mention in the bill,” a former Executive Vice- Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission, Mr. Ernest Ndukwe, said.

Gunmen attacked Christian corps members in Jalingo

Gunmen yesterday attacked Christian corps members behind Federal Government Girls College (FGGC) Jalingo, Taraba State capital and made away their monthly allowance running into hundred of thousands of naira. The bandits who stormed the Family House of the Redeemed Christian Corpers Fellowship (RCCF) held the corps members hostage for hours while stripping them of hundreds of thousands of naira and other valuables. The gunmen gained entrance into the Corps Members’ Lodge from a toilet in the female wing of the building and carted away three laptops, about 24 mobile phones and cash. “We are about 20 corps members in the lodge when it happened last night. All our phones were taken away, some of us had two, three phones. Also, our monthly feeding allowance, which we contributed was also taken away by the evil men.” A corps member who does not want his name in print said: “We were sleeping when some men came, they armed with dangerous weapons but we never resisted them. We obey their orders because, we were afraid, they asked us of our state of origin and religion, threatening to behead us if we misbehave. ” RCCF President, Banji Omogbehin said the motive of the attack was unknown because, the bandits were asking us of our state of origin, threatening to rape our ladies and behead us. Officials of the NYSC, who visited the corps members said the issue would be dealt with, as the scheme would not tolerate such act on its corps members. However, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Amos Olaoye said the case was not robbery, but burglary and stealing: “I can confirm the attack, but its not robbery, we have not made any arrest yet, but the police are investigating.” The case has been reported to GRA police division

An 11-year-old boy, Onyebuchi Eze, who witnessed how his mother was gruesomely murdered by his father has relived the bizarre incident.
Sunday Eze Jnr. killed his wife, Anthonia, on Tuesday night, leaving residents of Agbani Village on the outskirts of Nsukka Urban in Enugu State bewildered.
The killer husband, Daily Sun gathered, fled and hid in the jungle between his village and Obimo community in Nsukka Local Government Area after the dastardly act.
Onyebuchi, the only child of his parents, was traced to his uncle’s house, Alex, where he took refuge after witnessing the murder of his mother during a disagreement over what the boy described as a flimsy issue.
He recounted the incident, speaking in low tone, apparently traumatized: “My father has been exhibiting some strange behaviours, which made him to regret actions he took on some matters in the end.
“My father has a mental problem and exhibits it at times. He regrets certain actions he takes, when it is too late.
“On the fateful night, he had a quarrel with my mother over a small issue and my father reached out for his machete and started dealing cuts on my mother. I tried to stop him, but could not. So, he cut mummy all over her body, head, leg, hand and everywhere.
“I was very afraid but daddy took me along after he finished and we hid in the farmland near our house.
“After some time in the bush, he told me to run to his senior brother’s house and tell him what happened.
“I obeyed and that is why I am here.
“I am 11 years old and a pupil of Model Primary School, Nsukka Urban and in primary five.”
Onyebuchi said his father attempted to commit suicide while they were hiding in the farmland, using a spanner to slash his throat.
A search party initiated by a community leader, Chief Ejike Onah alias Papa Nsukka, fished out the killer husband, after an intensive manhunt that lasted for over 30 hours.
The suspect, Eze, told Daily Sun that his wife was responsible for his mental problem and that she died during a scuffle on the fateful night.
“I was told by a diviner that my wife had a hand in my mental problem, which causes me internal heat at intervals,” he said.
Meanwhile, Eze has been handed over to the police.
He is being held at the Nsukka Police Station.
Only two months ago, a former commissioner of the state electoral body, Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC), Chief Nweze, shot his wife dead in their marital home at Enugu-Ezike in Igboeze North Local Government Area.

‘I sold Maryam Abacha’s jewels to buy cocaine for her son’

A telephone operator in the house of the late Head of State General Sani Abacha, who is standing trial before a Kano Chief Magistrate’s Court over alleged theft of jewelries belonging to former First Lady Hajiya Maryam Abacha, has told the court that son of the late miliary head of state sent him to sell the gold and buy cocaine with the proceeds.

Abdullahi Ali, who was charged to court along three others for the offence committed in 2007, denied the allegation of theft and house breaking in his defence yesterday. While being led by his counsel, Barrister Abubakar Muhammad, the accused said Abdullahi Sani Abacha gave him the jewelries about five years ago, when his mother was away in Abuja.

“He directed me to sell it and take the money to one Tony in Sabon Gari [quarters] to collect cocaine for him,” he said. He also said Abdullahi almost killed him when he refused to comply with a similar directive, earlier on.

The accused person, who has been in prison custody for five years, said he was given N110,000 as part payment for the gold which he sold N220, 000. “I took the money to Tony and collected the cocaine,” he added.

Ali, however, said when Maryam Abacha returned from the journey and discovered that she had been robbed, other house servants who were not in good terms with him roped him in. He said the chief security officer to the former First Lady, Captain Hassan, along with Mohammed Ali, Musa Ya’u and Murtala Ali, told Maryam that they were suspecting him.

“When I told the police about Tony, Captain Hassan quickly called him on the phone and asked him to run away and since then I have not heard from him again,” he said.

Chief Magistrate Khadi-jah Mustapha adjourned the case to September 19, 2012.

How Turkish woman shot and beheaded man who raped her

A woman in Turkey is awaiting trial after beheading a man who she says raped her repeatedly for months and is the father of her unborn child. Her lawyer says the woman killed the man to protect her honor. Nevin Yildirim, a 26-year-old mother of two, lives in a small village in southwestern Turkey. She said the man, Nurettin Gider, began the attacks a few days after her husband left in January for a seasonal job in another town, according to a source close to the case. Yildirim said Gider threatened her with a gun and said he would kill her children, ages 2 and 6, if she made any noise, according to the source. That was the first of repeated rapes over the next eight months, the source said. At one point, Yildirim said, Gider sneaked into her house while she was asleep and took pictures of her, the source said. One of the pictures shows her pregnant body. Gider threatened to publish the pictures if she didn’t obey him, the source said. In small villages like hers, honor is held above all else, and women carry the burden of honor for their families. Pictures like those would have been devastating for Yildirim and her family and could have posed a danger. On August 28, at least five months pregnant by a man who she said continued to rape her, Yildirim said she decided she had had enough. Gider was climbing up the back wall of her house. “I knew he was going to rape me again,” she said at her preliminary hearing August 30. She said she grabbed her father-in-law’s rifle that was hanging on the wall and she shot him. He tried to draw his gun and she fired again. “I chased him,” she said. “He fell on the ground. He started cussing. I shot his sexual organ this time. He became quiet. I knew he was dead. I then cut his head off.” Witnesses described Yildirim walking into the village square, carrying the man’s head by his hair, blood dripping on the ground. “Don’t talk behind my back, don’t play with my honor,” Yildirim said to the men sitting in the coffee house on the square. “Here is the head of the man who played with my honor.” She threw Gider’s head to the ground, the witnesses said. Video from Turkish broadcaster DHA, which arrived on the scene before the authorities, showed Gider’s head on the ground. Witnesses called authorities and Yildirim was arrested. Gider was 35 and the father of two children, 15 and 9. He was married to an aunt of Yildirim’s husband. Yildirim told her legal representative she regrets what happened, the source said. “I thought of reporting him to military police and to the district attorney, but this was going to mark me as a scorned woman,” Yildirim said, according to the source. “Since I was going to get a bad reputation I decided to clean my honor and acted on killing him. I thought of suicide a lot but couldn’t do it.” Yildirim said she was worried people would judge her children because of what happened, the source said. “Now no one can call my children bastards,” she said, according to the source. “I cleaned my honor. Everyone will call them the children of the woman who cleaned her honor.” The source said Yildirim went to a health clinic a while ago seeking an abortion, but health workers told her she was 14 weeks pregnant and abortion was not an option. In Turkey, abortion is allowed during the first 10 weeks of pregnancy, after which it is permitted only to save the life or health of the mother or in cases of fetal impairment, Human Rights Watch said. At her hearing, Yildirim said she doesn’t want to keep the baby and that she is ready to die, the source said. The public prosecutor’s office has ordered a medical examination to decide whether Yildirim may have an abortion and to assess her mental stability, the source said. Yildirim’s father, Zekeriya Yildiz, told DHA his daughter did not report the alleged abuse to anyone in the family. “If she would have told us, we would have taken other precautions,” he said. Yildirim is in the local jail while she awaits trial. In a report last year, Human Rights Watch decried gaps in Turkish law that it said leave women and girls unprotected from domestic abuse. Some 42% of women older than 15 in Turkey and 47% of rural women have experienced physical or sexual violence at the hands of a husband or partner at some point in their lives, the group said. “She has lived through a terrible trauma. This incident happened yesterday afternoon at Adeniji Adele, Dolphin Estate, Phase 2. A little girl ran into a woman's shop crying. The woman asked her why she was crying, but the little girl couldn't really express herself. She just kept pointing at a particular direction, and crying. Then a few minutes later, the shop owner saw a man approaching her shop and calling on the girl to follow him. The woman asked the man who he was and why he was after the girl. The man probably realized the women wasn't going to release the girl to him, so he tried to run. The woman raised an alarm immediately shouting ole ole, thinking he was a kidnapper, not knowing he had done something much worse.



Youths in the area thinking the man was a thief descended on him. The man kept saying he wasn't a thief that the little girl was known to him. They turned to the girl and pressured her to tell them what the guy had done to her; the 3 year old told them that the man had taken her to the last floor of a 3 story building and hurt her. They checked the girl's panties and saw blood all over her private area. The blood had even dropped to her legs but nobody noticed on time.

On hearing this, the youths descended on him once again, this time more brutal. They stripped him naked, and beat him with stick, stones, bottles, etc until someone called the police who then took the man away.

I Slept With Your Husband, —Woman Tells Bosom Friend

A fight broke out between two friends, Evelyn Nze, 28 and her friend, Joy Oluchukwu, 27, over Joy’s claims that she has been sleeping with Evelyn’s husband in their house at Apapa, Lagos State southwest Nigeria.



Sources gathered that Joy reportedly asked Evelyn how she managed to have all her children because she was sure that her husband was impotent.

Evelyn asked her friend to tell her how she knew that her husband was impotent.

She told Evelyn who is from Imo State that she had slept with her husband several times and she did not get pregnant.

Joy, from Anambra State, told Evelyn that she must have slept with other men that impregnated her, therefore all her children were bastards.

This resulted in a serious fight between them and in the process Evelyn was injured in her hand.
The incident happened at 54, Kirikiri Road, Olodi Apapa, Lagos.

The police arrested them for engaging in a fight publicly.

Also, Joy was arraigned for telling her friend that her husband was impotent and calling her children bastards.

The prosecutor, Mrs. Christiana Olagbayi, told the court the offences the defendants committed were contrary to sections 54, 166 and 171 of the Criminal Code Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.
They pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

They were admitted to bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum. The matter has been adjourned till 20 October, 2012.

Fire engulfs commercial bus full of passengers in Lagos

Fortunately no one was injured as all passengers managed to run out of the bus before it was completely engulfed. It happened around 8am this morning at CMS, just by BRT Bus Stop.
Eye witnesses said Lastma officials got to the scene like 3 minutes after the occurrence and they maintained free flow of traffic and contacted the fire service immediately. But till the bus burned out, no fire service was seen.

Abortion doctor had sex with 52 of his patients in three months

The Ghanian media is awash with the story of a medical doctor who was secretly caught on video forcing his female patients to have raw unprotected sex with him right on top of the operating table. The women, some of whom are known faces in society, had gone to the clinic for surgical abortion at various times and the doctor, after making them strip naked for the operation, forced them to have sex with him with an excuse that without the sex, the abortion would not be successful. The doctor is currently in police net and is being prepared to be charged to court as investigations continue into his case. The must-watch video was secretly recorded by mysterious investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, at a private clinic located at Madina, a suburb of Accra. For the three-month period that Anas and his team planted the secret cameras in the theater, the doctor was captured having sex with over 52 different ladies who had gone to him for abortion. The women were aged between 20 to 40 years and were charged various amounts ranging from GH¢150 to GH¢400, depending on the age of the pregnancy. He told the unsuspecting women, midway into the abortion, that unless an erected penis entered them, the exercise would be excruciatingly painful and almost unsuccessful so they had no choice but to let him enter. Interestingly, the doctor slept with all the women without using a condom even as he performed the sex act standing, while they lay haplessly on the operation table. Anas, in planting the camera, had to disguise himself as a cleaner and then later as a medical assistant sort of. Reports say portions of the must-watch sex video would be shown on Multi TV’s Joy News Channel on Wednesday, September 5, at 6pm. The investigation is part of Anas’ Wild Ghana project in which he would be collaborating with Multi TV to investigate and capture on video some of Ghana’s most atrocious crimes.

Chinese government official’s son dies in car crash while playing sex games with naked ladies

The high-speed road death of a playboy son of a high-ranking Chinese government official has caused another rare scandal in China’s ruling Communist Party just weeks ahead of its once-in-a-decade leadership transition. Ling Gu, 23 – the son of Ling Jihua, who ranks fourth in the all-powerful Politburo Standing Committee – was killed when he lost control of his black Ferrari 458 Spider on Beijing’s North Fourth Ring Road in the early hours of March 18. The crash was, however, kept secret by the government because the victim’s father is an ally and close aide of outgoing President Hu Jintao. Police who attended the scene said Ling Gu died instantly and two young women – one naked, one semi-naked – were seriously injured, with one of the passengers said to be paralysed from the neck down. Globacom Manger, Tayo Smith Commits Suicide Due To Frustration From Boss

The Challenge, Ibadan office of Globacom Nigeria Limited, Nigeria’s second National Telephone Operator is currently permeated by uneasy calm following the death of Tayo Smith, one of the Area Marketing Managers of the company. Street Journal gathered that Smith committed suicide last Saturday, leaving a note in which he apologized to his wife and children. It is also being speculated that the deceased blamed his action on his boss who he claimed was frustrating him. Though Tayo Smith’s colleagues are keeping mum about the incident and no one wants to be quoted, there are insinuations that there is more to the suicide than is being said. People have started wondering anyone would commit suicide due to frustration from a boss when there is an option of quitting the job. One other suspicion that has been raised by the supposed suicide note borders on the condition under which it was written. Some people have drawn an inference that the deceased might have been compelled to write the note to make it look like suicide while what happened was probably a case of homicide. There have also been suggestions that he might have been in on some top rated secrets or deals which probably led to what is being termed “arranged suicide” by some. Though no member of staff of Glo in Challenge has denied the story, none wants to say a word.
