Rocket Launchers, AK-47 Riffles, Ammunitions Recovered in Warehouse in Lagos

At least two rocket launchers, 36 AK-47 rifles and 40,000 live ammunitions have been seized by security agents in Ajangbadi area of Lagos State on Monday. The seizure was made by men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) at a warehouse. The SARS had acted on a tip-off, swooping on the warehouse around 5am.
According to sources, the warehouse was used in storing assorted food items. It is believed that the arms and ammunition might have been brought into the country either by a terrorist group or a robbery gang. The source said, “The security agents are still investigating the matter. They are working on two theories: One that they were imported by a terrorist group or robbers, who want to launch robbery attacks during festive season. The latter is more plausible.”
Meanwhile, Punch correspondents learnt that the security agents were on the trail of the importers of the items. However, another police officer at SARS told Punch correspondent on the telephone that the weapons were owned by some of the armed robbers who carried out attacks in Lagos on September 9.
In his words, “We have reason to believe that it was the robbers who terrorized Lagos two Sundays ago. The ammunition will be displayed before journalists.” But, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, however said she was unaware of the recovery of the weapons.
